Service 1 of 3

OT Assessment

Our Occupational Therapist conducts comprehensive assessments that form the foundation of good planning. Whether you need a functional capacity evaluation, a home modification report, or an assistive technology assessment, we provide thorough, evidence-based reports that translate into real-world outcomes.

OT assessment is typically funded under Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living (15) in an NDIS plan. Assessments are also available for privately funded and aged care clients.

Functional Capacity Assessment

Comprehensive evaluation of a person's ability to perform daily tasks, used to inform NDIS planning, SIL applications, and support needs.

Home Modification Assessment

Assessment of the home environment and recommendations for modifications to support safety, accessibility, and independence.

Assistive Technology Assessment & Prescription

Assessment, trial, and prescription of assistive technology — from low-tech aids to complex communication and mobility devices.

Sensory Assessment

Assessment of sensory processing needs to inform therapy goals, environmental adjustments, and support strategies.

NDIS Reports & Goal-Setting

OT reports for NDIS access, review, and planning meetings — including goal statements and evidence of functional impact.

Service 2 of 3

OT Therapy Implementation

Once an OT assessment and intervention plan is in place, the next step is putting it into practice. Our allied health assistants deliver OT therapy programs under the direct clinical supervision and oversight of your treating Occupational Therapist.

Implementation sessions focus on building skills, practising routines, training with equipment, and working toward the goals your OT has identified — with every session reported back to the treating OT.

Maximise your NDIS budget

OT Implementation is billed as a separate NDIS line item to OT Assessment — typically at a lower rate — which means your Capacity Building budget can go further. Many participants use implementation to extend the value of their OT plan.

What implementation sessions look like

Therapy program delivery as prescribed by your treating OT

Practice of daily living skills and functional routines

Exercise and rehabilitation program support

Equipment and assistive technology training in the home or community

Sensory regulation activities and environment-based strategies

Community participation practice aligned to therapy goals

Progress documented and reported back to the treating OT

Note: OT Implementation is delivered by an allied health assistant under the clinical supervision of your treating Occupational Therapist. A treating OT relationship must be in place before implementation sessions commence.

Common questions about driver assessment

What is an OT driver assessment?

An OT driver assessment is completed by an occupational therapist with additional training in driver assessment. It looks at whether a person can drive safely and, if so, whether vehicle modifications, adaptive equipment or licence conditions may help.

Who might need a driver assessment?

People whose driving may be affected by a medical condition, acquired disability, brain injury, stroke or age-related change — or anyone whose doctor, treating team or licensing authority has recommended one.

What does the assessment involve?

There are two parts: an off-road clinical assessment (reviewing things like vision, thinking skills and physical function) and an on-road assessment in a dual-control vehicle with the OT. Together these give a full picture of driving safety.

How long does it take?

Please allow a minimum of 3 hours for both the off-road and on-road components. A written report follows the assessment. We will explain any recommended next steps.

How should I prepare?

Bring your current licence, glasses or hearing aids if you use them, a list of your medications and any letters from your doctor or licensing authority. Take your usual medications, have something to eat beforehand and avoid booking anything straight afterwards.

Does the OT decide whether I keep my licence?

No. The OT gives a clinical recommendation to you, your doctor and the licensing authority. Licensing decisions in NSW are made by Transport for NSW. We provide clear, evidence-based reports to support that process.

Can the assessment be funded by my NDIS plan?

It may be. Driver assessments and related modification advice can sometimes be funded under Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living where they relate to your disability and goals. It depends on your plan, so check with your plan manager or support coordinator. Private payment is also possible; we will confirm a quote before booking.

Questions about funding, referrals or service areas? See our general FAQ.

NDIS Funding for OT Services

OT assessments and reports are funded under Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living (15). OT implementation by an allied health assistant is a separate NDIS line item — often at a lower rate — which stretches your plan further. Driver assessments may also be NDIS-funded where relevant to your disability and functional goals. Speak with your Support Coordinator or planner.
